The announcement of former Jharkhand CM Champai Soren's joining the BJP was made on Monday by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The former Chief Minister of Jharkhand will join the party in Ranchi on August 30, according to Sarma.

Himanta Biswa Sarma posted a photo of Soren and Union Home Minister Amit Shah together. Sarma attended the conference as well. Sarma is the BJP's co-incharge of the Jharkhand assembly elections. “Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and a distinguished Adivasi leader of our country, Champai Soren Ji met Hon’ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah Ji a short while ago. He will officially join the BJP on 30th August in Ranchi,” Sarma said on ‘X’.

Leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Soren, had declared he would soon decide on his next political move and accused the group's leadership of disrespecting him.

Impact of CM Champai Soren Joining BJP on Jharkhand's Political Scene

With JMM leader and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren accusing the party of trying to abduct its leaders, there was much conjecture that he may join the BJP. Mr. Soren stated a few days following his resignation that, had he had more time, he would have taken greater steps to advance the state.

The seasoned politician, who is referred to the party members as the "Jharkhand Tiger" for his substantial involvement in the 1990s fight to establish the state of Jharkhand, declared that he would not be leaving politics and that he would always be able to start a new political party.

Two weeks ago, in the midst of much excitement around his major transition, Mr. Soren declared, "hum jahan par hain vahi par hain (I am where I am)". He claimed to have traveled to Delhi for personal work when he landed there the same week. Nevertheless, the whispers persisted. He was referred to as a "senior leader" and "someone who was serving Jharkhand as a good Chief Minister" by the BJP, which also played ambiguity.

Earlier today, Mr. Sarma, the BJP's election coordinator for Jharkhand, declared, "I want Champai Soren to join the BJP and strengthen us." Jharkhand is set to have elections later this year. Within hours, the deal was sealed. The new inductee's joining date was revealed by Mr. Sarma along with a photo of Champai Soren and Amit Shah.

Champai Soren had taken oath as the 12th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on February 2 this year. He then resigned from the post of Chief Minister on July 3, a day before JMM executive president Hemant Soren took oath as the 13th chief minister of Jharkhand on July 4.
