The Government in Puducherry collapses as Chief Minister Narayanasamy along with other members of the Congress party resign. On Sunday, the government led by Congress-DMK had only 12 MLAs when two of its members dropped from the party. While on the other hand, the party in the opposition camp that is BJP gained 14 MLAs in the house. Yesterday Narayanasamy offered his resignation to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.

Narayanasamy, in the assembly, accused BJP of sabotaging the current or the ruling government along with Kiran Bedi. He further added that this government was elected in a clear majority. He addressed these things in his speech in the assembly.

Former CM requested the speaker to bar the MLAs of the opposition from casting their vote. Without MLAs, Congress-DMK will be able to make the majority with ease. However, the Speaker denied their plea stating that in the past the Supreme Court has allowed newly nominated MLAs to cast their vote. CM Narayanasamy was asked to take the floor test to prove their losing majority in the state.

The Congress is in shambles right now as they have lost the only government in the South. In the last month, two of their members have quit the party and joined the opposition.

The same case happened last week where two members of the ruling party were tipped to do the same. Lakshminarayanan, four-time Congress MLA told that he was not getting enough attention in the party. Due to this, opposition parties like BJP and NR Congress approached him. Lt Governor might impose President’s Rule if none of the party presents a clear majority to form a government within the next 3 months.

BJP might take advantage of the current situation in the upcoming election. Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and three other states are going for assembly elections in May 2021.
There is a likelihood that the BJP might be able to gain some traction in the South besides Karnataka. During the 2019 Lok Sabha election, they didn’t win a single seat in South India.
