ED detains AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan on Monday in connection with a money laundering case following six hours of interrogation. He is set to appear at Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court in the afternoon. Earlier today, ED authorities raided his Okhla home. At 6:30 AM, the AAP MLA for New Delhi's Okhla constituency tweeted, "An ED team has reached my house to arrest me."

The prosecution against Khan is based on two FIRs: one filed by the CBI alleging irregularities in Waqf Board appointments, and another by the Delhi ACB alleging disproportionate assets. Previously, the CBI summoned Khan and interrogated him for 13 hours.

Amanatullah Khan uploaded a video on social media around 7.43 a.m. "An ED team has come to arrest me on the pretext of a search. My mother-in-law is a cancer patient; she was operated on four days ago. She is also at my home. I had informed the ED about this. They have been harassing me for two years, slapping false cases. They are harassing our party (AAP). Their objective is to break our party. I appeal to the people of Okhla to pray for me and I promise that we will get all your work done. Don’t worry, we will not get scared," he says in the video.

In another video, an old woman was seen laying on the bed while Amanatullah Khan questioned a man at his door about why the officials were there when he had requested four weeks to appear before the ED. "My mother-in-law has had surgery," he informed. The man at the door enquired why he felt they were going to arrest him. Khan asked, "Why else are you here?" Khan's wife reportedly asked, "What are you looking for in a three-room house...?" If something happens to my mother, I'll take you to court."

Political Reactions

Meanwhile, senior AAP leaders said that the Centre was targeting Khan. "This is the only job left for ED. Suppress every anti-BJP voice. Break it. Arrest and imprison those who do not break or are suppressed," prominent AAP leader Manish Sisodia stated on X.

Sanjay Singh, an AAP Rajya Sabha MP, said, "“See the cruelty of ED. Amanatullah Khan joined the ED investigation and asked for time as his mother in law has cancer and she has undergone an operation but ED reached his house early in the morning. There is no evidence against Amanatullah Khan but Modi’s dictatorship and ED’s hooliganism continue.”

In reference to Khan, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva stated that there was a group of "criminal elements in AAP". "When ED arrived at his house to investigate financial irregularities in the Delhi Waqf Board, he claimed they had come to arrest him but did not explain why..." "The law is equal for everyone," he stated.

The ED arrested Khan in April in connection with the same case, but he was granted bail by the Delhi Rouse Avenue court. The ED's complaint against Khan is based on claims of improper hiring of staff at the Delhi Waqf Board and subsequent misuse of funds to purchase properties in the names of his accomplices.
