A lawsuit has been filed against Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna amid a dispute over obscene films - reportedly showing the him sexually assaulting multiple women. The video clips, purportedly involving Prajwal Revanna, surfaced on social media a day after he voted on April 26 in Phase 2 of the elections.

Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of JDS president and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has disputed the charges and filed a lawsuit, stating that the recordings being disseminated are doctored.

The Karnataka government has set up a special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the obscene films matter.

The decision to form the SIT came after the state women's commission urged the Siddaramaiah government to act.

The incident involves explicit films purportedly shot by the MP and widely shared in the Hassan constituency.

This was followed by a woman submitting a police report against Prajwal Revanna accusing him of sexual assault. She claimed that she had been sexually molested several times between 2019 and 2022.

The complainant also alleged that Prajwal Revanna misbehaved with her daughter during a video call, engaging in "vulgar conversations" with her.

The woman claimed that Prajwal's father, HD Revanna, sexually molested her when his wife was not home. She further stated that her life and that of other members of her family are under threat.

BJP Leader Devaraje Gowda, who was the party's Holenarsipura candidate in the 2023 Assembly elections, has now claimed that he wrote to then-state president BY Vijayendra in December last year, raising "grave allegations" against the HD Deve Gowda family, particularly Prajwal Revanna.

He claimed to have received a pen drive with 2,976 explicit videos of women, which were then used to blackmail them into continuing to participate in sexual activity. "If we align with the JD(S) and nominate a JD(S) candidate in Hassan for the Lok Sabha elections, these videos can be used as a brahmastra, and we will be tainted as a party that supported the family of a rapist." "This will be a huge blow to our party's national image," Devaraje Gowda wrote in the letter.

Prajwal Revanna is the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Devegowda.

Prajwal Revanna is the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, where voting took place in the second phase on April 26. The Janata Dal (Secular), or JD(S), joined the NDA in September last year.

The 33-year-old left for Germany Saturday morning, just after the recordings surfaced online.

He filed a police complaint, alleging that the recordings were doctored and were being shared to "tarnish his image and poison voters' minds."

Prajwal's father HD Revanna, who is also an accused in the case filed by their former house help, is MLA from Holenarasipur constituency.

The dispute has also escalated into a political battle between the JDS and the BJP.

The BJP has distanced itself from Prajwal Revanna amid the scandal over his alleged sex videos. "We, as a party, have nothing to do with the videos and neither do we have any comments to make on the SIT probe announced by the state government into the alleged sex scandal involving Prajwal Revanna," S Prakash, the state spokesperson for the BJP, said.

Prajwal Revanna's uncle and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy stated he would want to wait for the facts to emerge from the investigation into the alleged scandal involving his nephew, but underlined that there is no notion of forgiving anyone who has committed a crime.

Another JD(S) leader, Sharangouda Kandkur, has urged that Prajwal Revanna be suspended. Mr Kandkur warned HD Deve Gowda in a two-page letter made public Monday morning that the JDS was "embarrassed by the circulating videos, and it damages the reputation of both you and your party," he said.

The Congress has slammed the BJP, claiming that the party assisted Prajwal Revanna in fleeing the country following a debate over alleged sex recordings involving him. Congress leaders and workers also held a demonstration in Bengaluru, demanding his immediate arrest.
