Senior politician Swati Maliwal said on May 17 that she was "slapped seven times and kicked in the stomach" by an Arvind Kejriwal staffer inside the Chief Minister's house. However, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) refuted her claims, Atishi accuses BJP.
Maliwal was charged by the AAP of conspiring with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to weaken the latter during the general election.
AAP leader and Delhi Minister Atishi cited a 52-second video during a news conference that showed the altercation between Maliwal and Kejriwal's house staff.
A woman identified as Maliwal is seen in the video disputing with the guards, who keep asking her to leave.
The woman defies them to take her out by force, threatening them with police action if they don't comply.
Atishi made reference to a video that Maliwal says is being taken out of context in order to imply that the BJP had planned an attack on Kejriwal.
She claimed that the video demonstrated the purported BJP plot to damage the Chief Minister, who was just freed on bond following his imprisonment on allegations of corruption, a few days prior to the Lok Sabha election in Delhi.
Accusing the BJP of plotting against Maliwal, Atishi referred to her as the "face and pawn of this conspiracy."
She asserted that Kejriwal's growing national prominence and popularity unnerved the BJP.
"Ever since Arvind Kejriwal got bail the BJP has been rattled. Due to this, BJP hatched a conspiracy, under which Swati Maliwal was sent to Arvind Kejriwal's house on the morning of May 13. They intended to accuse the Chief Minister... but he was not there then, so he was saved," Atishi said
"Swati Maliwal was the face and pawn of this conspiracy," she added.
Referring to the video from Monday, Atishi argued that the clip demonstrated the falsehood of Maliwal's allegations.
"In her complaint to the police, she said she was assaulted... but the video shows her sitting comfortably and threatening officials... also seen threatening Bibhav Kumar. Her clothes were not torn and there was no injury on her head," Atishi claimed, disputing Maliwal's claim of being repeatedly slapped and kicked.
Retaliating against the AAP, Swati Maliwal wrote on X that the "political hitman" has started attempting to defend himself by arranging pro-AAP tweets and publishing films that are taken out of context, all without naming names.
She maintained that no one would videotape someone while they were abusing them and demanded that the CCTV footage from inside the house be analysed in order to ascertain the truth.
"Just like every time, this political hitman has started trying to save himself again. By having his people tweet and playing videos without context, he thinks he will commit this crime and save himself. Does anyone make a video while beating someone? Once the CCTV footage from inside the house and the room is examined, the truth will come out in front of everyone. Fall as low as you can, God is watching everything. One day, everyone's truth will be revealed to the world," Maliwal said in a post in Hindi.
Although it is the duty of the top police officers to look into the allegations made by Swati Maliwal, the AAP president, who was appointed for her work to empower women, but it is important to note that these claims were labelled as part of a BJP plot. Swati Maliwal, however, had stated via X that BJP members shouldn't play politics in this situation. An ancient proverb states that "women are a women's greatest enemy." Atishi Marlena's remarks amply demonstrate this. I think this is the game of politics.
