The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the Andhra Pradesh Police last week arrested YSR Congress Party MP Raghu Ramakrishna Raju on charges of sedition.

The arrest which was carried out on Raju's birthday on Friday (14 May) under various sections of the IPC including sedition, comes days after he had filed a petition seeking CBI court's cancellation of bail granted to Jagan Reddy in disproportionate assets case.

The CID has alleged that Raju has been "indulging in hate speeches against certain communities and promoting disaffection against the government".

The Narsapuram MP was booked under sections 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 505 (incite, any class or community of persons to commit any offence) read with 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

Sharing pictures of injuries on his feet, Raju had later accused state CID officials of assaulting him in custody. Lawyers of the YSR Congress Party MP even alleged that attempts were made to prevent them from appearing in court. Raju's lawyers have also filed a habeas corpus in the division bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

The AP High Court on Sunday directed the CID to shift YSR Congress rebel MP K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju to a private hospital (Ramesh Hospitals) for treatment following a CID special court order.  The MP is currently lodged in the Guntur district jail.

The CID special court had directed the CID to shift the MP to Ramesh Hospitals for treatment after the completion of medical tests at the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Guntur. He was shifted to the jail after completion of the tests that held amidst high security. Reports said a team of specialists at GGH conducted 15 to 18 tests on him.
