Over a thousand unemployed applicants gathered for a walk-in interview for 10 vacancies, causing a stampede-like situation in Gujarat's Bharuch district. The steel railing of the Lords Plaza Hotel, where the interview was hosted, collapsed due to the large gathering, and several people fell. The incident occurred on Tuesday when a private company hosted an interview for the 10 positions.
A video of the event has gone viral on social media, showing a large crowd of applicants pushing to enter the hotel. This caused the ramp railing to collapse. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Bharuch Superintendent of Police Mayur Chavda said, “As per our information, a company arranged walk-in interviews for nearly 40 vacancies in five different roles. The company booked a hall in a hotel in Ankleshwar expecting some 150 candidates. However, 800 turned up and company officials had to shut the door of the interview hall to control the crowd, which led to the situation shown in the video.”
The incident led to a heated argument between the opposition (Congress) and the ruling party (BJP) in the state. The Congress party came out to criticize the "Gujarat Model" of development promoted by the ruling party and claimed that this incident exposed the government's flaws.
The ruling party responded to it by saying that Congress is trying to defame the government through this viral video.
Congress' Critique
Congress posted on X, attaching a clip of the incident, "Gujarat model of Narendra Modi. A huge crowd of unemployed people gathered for a hotel job in Bharuch, Gujarat. The situation became such that the railing of the hotel broke and the Gujarat model was exposed. Narendra Modi is imposing this model of unemployment on the entire country.”
Akhilesh Yadav, leader of the Samajwadi Party, wrote on X, “This is the truth of Gujarat model of false development… Thousands of people gathered for a few vacancies for ten-twenty thousand rupees. BJP has pushed the youth of the whole country into the ocean of unemployment due to its policies. These are the youth who will make way for their future by removing the BJP government because as long as BJP is there, there is no hope.”
Responding to it, BJP Gujarat posted on X, “Efforts to defame Gujarat are being made through a viral video from Ankleshwar. The advertisement for the walk-in interview clearly states that they require experienced candidates. This implies that those attending the interview are already employed elsewhere. Therefore, the notion of these individuals being unemployed is baseless.”
Adding to it, the ruling party took jabs at Congress, “It's evident that spreading negativity about Gujarat is a tactic learned from the Congress!”
