DGP RS Bhatti, speaking at the Independence Day celebration on Thursday, announced that at least 20% of female officers would soon be in charge of Bihar police stations. In his address to the police personnel, the Director General of Police said, "The number of women working in Bihar Police has reached around 30,000. Of them, 223 women officers are currently posted as station in-charge or additional station in-charge in various Bihar police stations across the state."

"Around 20 per cent of women police officers will soon be heading police stations in the state," he said. "Women help desks have been established in every police station in the state where right from listening to the complaint to execution of action is being ensured by women police officers. Bihar Police are working towards increasing the strength of women in the force," the DGP said.

According to Bhatti, efforts are on by the police to raise the amount of compensation paid to the surviving relatives of police officers killed while on duty from the current Rs 25 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore. Although it hasn't been decided upon yet, we are moving in that direction. In this context, Monday has been set aside for a high-level meeting. From its welfare fund, the Bihar Police would provide the sum," he continued.

According to the DGP, promotions have recently been granted to 15,000 staff members, and plans are underway to promptly promote every police officer.

An essential component of the idea of efficient law enforcement, according to him, is the caliber of the investigation. "In this direction, for the first time in Bihar, two cyber forensic labs of national standard will be built. FIR and case diary are being registered digitally through Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS)," he added.
