Delhi's Water and Education Minister, Atishi, will be the new Chief Minister of Delhi. Current Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal proposed her name at the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) legislative party meeting.
Atishi will be the third woman to hold the post of Delhi Chief Minister, following Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit. She will also be the second woman, after Mamata Banerjee, to be a Chief Minister currently in office.
Atishi is set to take over the position after Kejriwal's resignation following a meeting with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena this afternoon. The decision was confirmed during an AAP leaders' meeting, where Dilip Pandey suggested that Kejriwal choose the new Chief Minister. When Kejriwal proposed Atishi, all AAP MLAs approved, and she was elected as the leader of the legislature party.
Atishi currently oversees important portfolios in the Delhi government, including education and public works.
