A widespread IT outage has affected businesses globally, leading to Windows machines encountering the infamous “blue screen of death” (BSOD). The disruption, which began on July 19, has impacted millions of companies, airlines, banks, and online services.

What’s Happening?
The issue appears to stem from a faulty security update rolled out by cybersecurity company CrowdStrike. The update, part of the Falcon suite of software that manages cybersecurity defenses in computers, has caused this disruption. CrowdStrike has confirmed that a cyberattack did not cause the outage.
Indian airlines, including Akasa Air and IndiGo, have utilized social media platforms to inform passengers about the service disruptions. Booking, check-in, and access to boarding passes have been temporarily affected due to infrastructure issues with service providers.
The National Cyber Security Coordinator has acknowledged the large-scale technical outage affecting companies and services across Australia. The incident is linked to a third-party software platform used by affected organizations.
Microsoft, in a statement, assured users that it is taking “mitigation actions” to address the situation. While services continue to improve, the company remains committed to resolving the lingering impact on Microsoft 365 apps that are currently in a degraded state.

The BSOD, also known as a black screen error or STOP code error, occurs when critical issues force Windows to unexpectedly shut down or restart. Users may encounter a message stating, “Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.” These errors can result from hardware or software problems.
