Kangana Ranaut, the newly-elected Member of Parliament (MP) from Mandi representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was involved in a distressing incident at the Chandigarh airport.
Reports suggest that a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable allegedly slapped Ranaut during a security frisking procedure while she was preparing to board Vistara's UK707 flight to Delhi.
The argument reportedly began when CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur asked Ranaut to place her phone in the security tray. After Ranaut refused, the situation escalated, leading to the alleged slap. In a video shared on social media, Ranaut expressed her experience, stating, "I was hit on the face, abused. I am safe but concerned about terrorism in Punjab."
Kaur's actions were influenced by Ranaut's stance on the farmers' protest. "She started abusing me, and when I asked why she did so, she said that she supports farmers' protests. I am safe, but my concern is how we handle the terrorism and militancy increasing in Punjab," Ranaut went on to say.
After the incident, Kangana Ranaut proceeded to board her flight to Delhi, while Punjab police officials also arrived at the airport. An inquiry committee of senior CISF officers has been established to investigate the matter further.
“I am getting a lot of phone calls, from the media as well as my well-wishers. First of all, I am safe, I am perfectly fine," she enunciated.
Kangana said the incident happened at Chandigarh airport was during the security check, and claimed that she was slapped because the CISF personnel “supported farmers' protest".
“As soon as I came out after the security check, the lady in the second cabin, a CISF security staff came from the side, hit me on my face and started abusing me. When I asked her why she did so, she said that she supports farmers' protest," Kangana said.
Ranaut, who won the Lok Sabha elections by defeating Congress' Vikramaditya Singh with over 74,000 votes, now plans to file a complaint with the Ministry of Home Affairs, as the CISF falls under its jurisdiction.
