Gujarat's chief minister, Bhupendra Patel, launched a new initiative to provide rented accommodations at just Rs5 per day to the labourers under the "Shramik Basera" scheme. CM laid the foundation stone of one of the housing structures on Thursday.
Seventeen housing structures are set to be built in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, and Rajkot as part of the scheme.
CM Patel commenced the foundation ceremony at a site in Ahmedabad's Jagatpur area and virtually inaugurated the other projects. The CM also launched an online portal to facilitate the smooth execution of the Shramik Basera scheme.
Benefits of the Shramik Basera Scheme for Construction Workers
CM Patel said, “Once completed, the scheme will benefit around 15,000 construction workers, providing them accommodation at Rs 5 per day.” He further assured the people that over the next three years, more such housing structures will be built across the state to accommodate about 3 lakh construction workers. The project is expected to cost ₹1,500 crore.
The initiative aims to bring a "quality change" in the living standards of workers in the unorganized sector and construction industry by providing food, healthcare, housing, and financial assistance.
