Government's Response to Floods in Gujarat
Eleven districts in Gujarat are under a red warning due to rainfall, while 22 more districts are under a yellow notice for Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Kachchh and Saurashtra areas are under an IMD red alert, which impacts districts like Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, Surendranagar, Junagadh, Rajkot, Botad, Gir Somnath, Amreli, and Bhavnagar. Additionally, portions of North, Central, and South Gujarat have been placed under a yellow alert.
In order to evaluate the situation and reassure the state of the federal government's assistance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi contacted Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel of Gujarat.
Vadodara has seen an end to the rain, but numerous low-lying regions have seen flooding as a result of the Vishwamitri River overflowing its banks and into residential areas. Over 6,000 people have been relocated to safer areas as a result of continuing rescue operations in Gujarat as water levels in rivers and dams increase. The Gujarat government has requested the deployment of six Indian Army columns to assist with relief efforts in the districts of Dwarka, Anand, Vadodara, Kheda, Morbi, and Rajkot in response to the disaster.
Additionally, to assist with disaster management activities, 22 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and 14 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) platoons have been mobilized.
