Lawyer of self-proclaimed ‘godman’ Narayan Sakar Hari claims that the vicious stampede that had taken the lives of 121 people after Narayan Sakar Hari’s satsang ended yesterday, were caused by ‘anti-social’ elements.

“The incident that took place yesterday is unfortunate. Some anti-social elements orchestrated the stampede as part of a conspiracy after Narayan Sakar Hari left the ‘satsang.’ The incident is being investigated by the SIT. We thank the Uttar Pradesh Police and government,” AP Singh, the lawyer, said, in a video posted by PTI.

AP Singh further claims that ‘Baba Narayan Hari’ has full faith in the judicial probe being carried out. He also mentions that the workers of the mission are joining all efforts in ensuring that none of the bodies of those who died in the stampede remain unclaimed and are cremated respectfully.

He continues to remark that the situation is extremely tragic and something that he has ‘no words for.’

The primary accusation of the stampede fell on Narayan Sakar Hari’s shoulders, when people claimed that the devotees ran after him in an effort to show respect. But AP Singh disputes that claim, saying that Narayan Sakar Hari ‘does not allow anyone to even touch his feet, does not accept donations, does not have a mobile phone and is not present on any social media platforms.’

“Narayan Sakar Hari has led a pure life, and all allegations are false and targeted,” he said. He alleges that these allegations have found Narayan Sakar Hari because he’s a believer of the ‘Sanatana Dharma’ and that is the only reason for this unfounded hate.

The stampede at Narayan Sakar Hari’s religious congregation in Hathras had ended with at least 121 lives claimed. The stampede had likely occurred due to overcrowding, according to Sikandara Rao police station SHO Ashish Kumar. The FIR that the Uttar Pradesh Police filed notably does not include Narayan Sakar Hari as an accused.

The overcrowding had ended in a stampede when the devotees rushed to seek blessing from Narayan Sakar Hari, according to the SDM of the Sikandra Rao division.

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, believes the cause to be the same. After a conversation with eyewitnesses, he seems to have chalked this order of events down: Narayan Sakar Hari was coming down from the stage at the end of the congregation, several women began rushing towards him to touch him and the ‘sevadars’ stopped them midway through, curve-balling the incident into an accident.

The UP government has ordered judicial inquiry into the incident.
