Three of South Delhi’s most high-profile shopping destinations, DLF Promenade, DLF Emporio, and Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj, are facing an unprecedented water shortage that could disrupt operations if not resolved soon.

Managements of the malls confirmed that water supply from the Delhi Jal Board has been disrupted for several days, leaving storage tanks almost empty. As a result, around 70 per cent of toilets are closed, while restaurants are finding it difficult to maintain basic hygiene.

A restaurant operator inside one of the malls said, “We don’t even have enough water for cleaning or maintaining sanitation. Under these conditions, it’s becoming impossible to serve customers properly.”

Many outlets have been forced to curtail or temporarily suspend services, from washing dishes to providing drinking water to customers.

Mall authorities have warned that if the water supply isn’t restored within the next two to three days, they may be forced to shut down operations temporarily. Such a move could result in millions in losses and affect thousands of jobs, insiders said.

The Delhi Jal Board has not yet clarified when normal water supply will resume, and officials caution that the situation could worsen without immediate action.

The crisis comes just weeks before Diwali, the peak shopping season, when malls are usually crowded and retailers see their highest sales.

A store manager said, “We were gearing up for the festive rush, but now we are struggling to manage even the basics.”

Shoppers and businesses alike are now watching closely, hoping the water supply is restored before the festive season shopping frenzy begins.
