In a recent clash between ISKCON and Maneka Gandhi, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has taken legal action against the BJP MP, Maneka Gandhi, for her remarks about the organization. Temple has sent a defamation notice of Rs 100 crore to Maneka Gandhi, accusing her of making baseless allegations against them. The Vice-President of ISKCON Kolkata, Radharamn Das, expressed deep disappointment at Gandhi's comments and stated that they would vigorously pursue justice to clear their name.
Maneka Gandhi had made some serious allegations against Temple in a video. She called ISKCON a "big fraud" and claimed that they pretended to protect cows while secretly selling cattle to slaughter houses. Gandhi alleged that ISKCON used government funds and land for their cow shelters, but the cows were not being properly cared for. She accused them of selling cows to butchers and questioned their commitment to cow protection.
In response to these allegations, ISKCON's national spokesperson, Yudhistir Govinda Das, strongly refuted Maneka Gandhi's claims. He clarified that Temple has always been dedicated to the protection and care of cows and bulls, both in India and around the world. He explained that the organization serves a large number of bulls and non-milking cows alongside milking cows with love and devotion.
ISKCON commitment to cow protection and their track record in this regard.
The controversy seems to have arisen from a letter from a veterinary doctor regarding the Anantapur Govt Goshala, which is maintained by ISKCON. Yudhistir Govinda Das emphasized that the cows and bulls in their care are not sold to butchers, as alleged by Gandhi. He defended ISKCON's commitment to cow protection and their track record in this regard.
Maneka Gandhi's comments had caused significant distress among Temple devotees and supporters worldwide. They viewed her accusations as defamatory, slanderous, and malicious. The organization decided to take legal action to clear their name and reputation from what they perceived as false propaganda.
In the legal notice sent to Maneka Gandhi, Temple demanded Rs 100 crore in damages for the harm caused to their reputation. They asserted that Gandhi, as an MP and a former Union Minister, should not have made such serious allegations without substantial evidence. They were particularly hurt by her statements and were determined to seek justice through legal means.
