The Devikulam Fast Track Special Court (POCSO) judge Sirajudheen P. A, sentenced a Kerala man to a total of 106 years of imprisonment for allegedly raping and impregnating a 15-year-old mentally challenged girl. However, the imprisonment is to be served concurrently for 22 years.

The accused (a 44-year-old man who was a friend of the victim's mother) has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) for a total of 106 years of imprisonment and a fine of RS.60,000 which is to be given as compensation to the victim under the victim compensation scheme of the Idukki District Legal Services Authority. If the victim fails to pay the fine an additional 22 months of rigorous imprisonment will be added.

The incident happened in 2022, when the accused hailing from Thissur came to Adamali for work and was working with the victim's mother in a hotel. the two became friends and the accused started staying at their place. The accused then started predating the mentally challenged teen repeatedly raping her. He even threatened to kill her if she disclosed his shameful acts.

The incident was uncovered when the girl was taken to Adimali Taluk Hospital due to physical difficulties, where the Doctor disclosed that the girl was pregnant. The Doctor reported the incident to the police.

The pregnancy was aborted at Idukki Medical College Hospital and the DNA sample of the aborted foetus matched with the accused revealing him as the culprit.
