Christoph Schnellmann, the chief executive officer of Noida International Airport, said on Wednesday that the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the world's aviation organization, has assigned a special three-letter code, "DXN," to the Noida International Greenfield being built near Jewar.

Every airport receives this code since it is a standard method for identifying locations across the world. IATA Resolution 763 governs the location code requirement and is equivalent to a pin code, according to authorities.

For instance, DEL is the airport code for Delhi's IGI.

"This (three letter code) is one of the biggest milestones that Noida International airport has achieved, and the work on the project is going on as per the schedule," added Schnellmann.

According to officials, the distinctive three-letter code fulfills a crucial function by facilitating standardized communication between aviation stakeholders, facilitating efficient operations and minimizing mistakes. According to officials, it is used for boarding cards, luggage tag designations, and the purchase of tickets.

Receiving the three-letter code was hailed by (NIAL), the UP government's nodal agency for tracking the development, as a significant step forward since it lays the way for pacing the work to finish this project on schedule.

We are happy to announce that Noida International has been given the international three-letter code "DXN" by IATA. Arun Vir Singh, chief executive officer of NIAL and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), said that this was a significant acknowledgment by the worldwide trade group for airlines and another milestone for the project.

According to those involved in phase one of the project, the airport is anticipated to open before the deadline of September 29, 2024.

"We have currently constructed four floors of the air traffic control building, and the final two floors will be completed soon," said Schnellmann.

After three months, interior building work on the terminal will begin.

When the first phase is finished, they will be able to accommodate 12 million people yearly, and in phase four, that number would rise to 70 million. According to authorities, the first phase would include a 3,900-meter runway with room for 28 aircraft stands and will see one lakh flights annually. They also stated that the proposed passenger terminal will cover an area of one lakh square meters.

The airport said that around 20 structures, including the passenger terminal, air traffic control tower, office buildings, sewage and water treatment facilities, and electric substations, will rise at the location over the next months.

"NIA has also released bids for a number of additional concessions, both aeronautical and non-aeronautical. While advertising and ground handling concessions will be disclosed in the coming days, bids for food and beverage concessions and lounges are already in place. This week also sees the beginning of construction on the freight terminal, according to the airport.

Currently, Zurich Airport oversees 10 airports throughout the globe, including eight in Latin America and Noida International Airport in India. The business has previously shown a strong interest in Indian aviation. In 1999, it was a member of a consortium led by Siemens and owned a 17% share in Bengaluru Airport. It gradually decreased its ownership and left in 2016, when it sold the final 5% of Bengaluru International Airport Ltd. to Prem Watsa's Fairfax.
