Dehradun is on the verge of hosting India's lengthiest ropeway system, connecting the city with Mussoorie. This development will enable tourists to reach Mussoorie from Dehradun in just 15 minutes, significantly reducing the current travel time of one and a half hours.
The 5.5 km long Dehradun Mussoorie cable tramway.Project (DMRP) is being undertaken by the Mussoorie Sky Car Company Pvt, a consortium led by FIL Industries. This ambitious mono-cable project, costing around INR 300 crore, is slated to complete Phase 1 by September 2026.
Pioneering in cable tramway design, this system introduces 10-seater cabins, a first in India. These cabins are a marvel of modern engineering, featuring enclosed spaces, full ventilation, glazed windows, and automatic doors for maximum convenience. This is the first time cabins with a capacity of 1300 Passengers-Per-Hour-Per-Direction have been planned.
The cable tramway will be operational in all weather conditions, significantly alleviating traffic congestion in the region, particularly during peak festive seasons for both locals and tourists. The project also aims to integrate infrastructure development, including hospitality, food and beverages, and retail facilities, which will enhance the local economies of both Dehradun and Mussoorie.
