Zomato has launched a new feature, Healthy Mode, that rates meals based on their nutritional value. The feature aims to help users make healthier food choices while ordering. Currently living in Gurugram, Healthy Mode will expand to other cities in the coming weeks. In a post on X, CEO Deepinder Goyal stated that the company has made food ordering simple, but wants to give users the ability to choose healthier options effortlessly.

In a post on X, CEO Deepinder Goyal acknowledged that while Zomato had made ordering food simple and convenient, it had not done enough to guide people toward meals that are genuinely healthy. He emphasised that the company’s mission of “better food for more people” now needed to place greater focus on nutrition, alongside convenience and variety.

Under Healthy Mode, every dish is assigned a score ranging from Low to Super, determined by its nutritional value, including protein, complex carbohydrates, fibre, and essential micronutrients. The scoring system is powered by a combination of artificial intelligence and restaurant-provided data, but users see only a simple explanation of why a dish qualifies as healthy, making it easy to understand at a glance.

Goyal described the feature as being designed to a high standard, so much so that even professional athletes could rely on it when choosing their meals. He explained that the initiative was personal, noting his long-standing concern that Zomato made indulgent eating effortless but did not make healthy eating equally accessible. By launching Healthy Mode, the company hopes to shift this balance and encourage better food choices without compromising convenience or taste.

He also called on users to actively engage with the new feature, trying it out, pointing out flaws, and providing feedback. “This is just the beginning,” Goyal wrote, highlighting that Zomato plans to refine and expand the feature as it rolls out to more cities. The goal is clear: make nutritious meals easier to find, understand, and enjoy, while keeping food ordering simple and accessible for everyone.
