A woman from Bihar’s Samastipur gave birth to a baby girl inside a train coach at Anand Vihar Railway Station in Delhi. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) stepped in to assist with the delivery and ensured the mother and child were safely taken to the hospital.
RPF officer helps in emergency
The incident happened on Thursday when RPF Sub-Inspector Naveen Kumari was on duty at the station. She quickly responded after getting information about the woman experiencing labour pain.
"I was on duty when I got the information. I called the ambulance. A lady from Bihar's Samastipur was having labour pain. With the help of a police constable and other women in the coach, we helped in the delivery, and later we sent them to the hospital," Kumari told ANI.
Inspector Shailendra Kumar confirmed that both the mother and the newborn are safe.
"We received the information from a train that goes to Saharsa from Anand Vihar about the labour pain of the woman. Our lady sub-inspector, along with other staff, went there, and with the help of other women in the coach, the delivery was done. Later, an ambulance came, and we sent them to the hospital. Both the newborn and the mother are doing well," he said.
Similar case on a bus in 2024
This is not the first time a woman has given birth in a public transport vehicle. In 2024, a woman named Shweta Ratnam gave birth to a baby on a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus. The bus conductor, R. Saroja, and fellow passengers helped in the delivery.
TGSRTC Managing Director VC Sajjanar appreciated their efforts, calling it a great humanitarian gesture.
