A BJP MP from Nagaland, Phangnon Konyak, filed a complaint with the Rajya Sabha Chairman on Thursday, accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of misbehaving with her. She claimed that he stood too close to her and caused her discomfort during the simultaneous protests by the BJP and Congress outside Parliament earlier that day.

In her complaint, she described the incident: "I was standing just below the Makar Dwaar staircase, holding a placard. The security personnel had cordoned off an area and created a passage for the MPs of other parties. Suddenly, Leader of the Opposition, Shri Rahul Gandhi Ji, along with other party members, walked in front of me, despite the passage being designated for their movement."

"He misbehaved with me in a loud voice and his physical proximity to me was so close that I, being a lady member, felt extremely uncomfortable," the MP added.

Konyak further added that she "stepped aside with a heavy heart and denounced my democratic rights but felt that no Member of Parliament should behave this way."

The Rajya Sabha MP said that as a woman and a member of the ST (Scheduled Tribe) community, her dignity and self-esteem were deeply hurt by Rahul Gandhi's actions, and she sought the Rajya Sabha Chairman’s protection in this regard.

She reiterated these allegations while speaking in the Rajya Sabha, emphasizing her distress. "It's not that I cannot defend myself, but his behaviour was highly inappropriate, so I chose not to retaliate. However, his actions today were deeply upsetting, and I feel disheartened. No woman member, especially someone like me, an ST woman, should be made to feel this way," she said.

During the session, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar confirmed that he received the complaint and is looking into the issue. He said, "The woman MP came to me in tears. I have the details and have spoken to her. She was in shock, and I am giving this matter my attention."

The protests were sparked by a disagreement over the treatment of BR Ambedkar. The Congress party accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of insulting Ambedkar during his speech in the Rajya Sabha. In response, the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-led INDIA bloc staged simultaneous protests outside Parliament, each blaming the other for disrespecting Ambedkar’s legacy. This led to tensions and clashes between the two parties, with some MPs getting injured during the protests.
