The body of missing Indian soldier Hilal Ahmad Bhat was found in South Kashmir Anantnag district. His body had bullet wounds and was discovered in the Sanglan forest one day after he disappeared during an anti-terror operation. Bhat, who lived in Mukdhampora Nowgam in Anantnag, was on a mission in the Kazwan Forest when militants took him. His body was later taken to a hospital for examination.

“Based on intelligence input, a joint counteroperation was launched by the Indian army along with Jammu and Kashmir Police and other agencies in Kazwan forest on 8th October. Operation continued overnight as one soldier of the Territorial Army was reported missing,” the Army's Chinar Corps said in a post on X. “Massive search operation is in progress,” they added.

The search for Bhat began following his disappearance during a joint counter-terrorism operation launched by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and other security agencies. The operation, initiated based on intelligence inputs, was aimed at locating militants in the Kokernag area. While one of Bhat’s fellow soldiers managed to escape despite being injured, Bhat was captured by militants during the encounter.

Reports say that three to four militants were involved in the abduction of Hilal Ahmad Bhat, and early information suggests that at least two of them might be from other countries. The Indian Army's Chinar Corps confirmed that Bhat was kidnapped and said they were carrying out large search and rescue operations in the area to find the militants.

Tensions rise amid security concerns

The recovery of Bhat’s body has raised concerns about security in the region. This incident, happening during ongoing efforts by security forces to fight militancy in Kashmir, has made the search for the militants even more urgent. More soldiers have been sent to find the militants responsible for the attack. The situation is still tense as security forces work to protect the area and stop more violence from happening.
