Mehul Choksi, the fugitive businessman, was arrested in Belgium on April 12 following India’s extradition request in connection with the PNB bank loan fraud case. Choksi was apprehended by Indian and Belgian authorities while allegedly preparing to flee to Switzerland.
The arrest comes just weeks after reports disclosed that Choksi had been residing in Antwerp, Belgium, with his wife, Priti Choksi, after securing a residency card in the country. However, the Mehul Choksi case also includes a dramatic twist involving a ‘honey-trap and abduction plot’ linked to a Hungarian woman named Barbara Jabarika.
About Barbara Jabarika
Choksi, wanted in the PNB bank fraud case, has claimed that he was abducted and taken from Antigua to Dominica as part of a planned conspiracy. He said he was tortured and transported on a boat against his will.
A Hungarian woman named Barbara Jabarika has been linked to the case. Choksi alleged that she was involved in a honeytrap and abduction plot. His wife, Priti Choksi, who is also an accused in the case, said they met Barbara in 2020 and believes she was part of the plan to trap him.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Barbara Jabarika is a “Property Investment Agent” from Bulgaria. She describes herself as an “Experienced Sales Negotiator” with a strong background in direct sales and the real estate industry. With over 10 years of experience, she has held management roles in both property and retail sectors. Choksi’s wife, Priti Choksi, claimed that they first met Barbara in August 2020.
As per reports, Mehul Choksi and Barbara Jabarika had developed a friendship, and on the day he vanished, she had invited him to visit her apartment. It was then that a group of people allegedly abducted Choksi and transported him to Dominica, where he was reportedly held.
Barbara, however, rejected these claims. She told NDTV that she was Choksi’s “girlfriend” and denied involvement in the alleged plot. She also stated that she was financially independent and ran her own business.
