India has accomplished a remarkable feat by breaking the global record with an incredible 64.2 crore voters casting votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar delivered the declaration on June 3, 2024, at a press conference in New Delhi. This news conference served as an opportunity to appreciate and acknowledge the noteworthy voter turnout as well as the efforts of all those who exercised their right to vote in the world’s largest electoral exercise.

This enormous turnout of voters, 31.2 crore of them women represents a critical turning point in the history of democracy. At a news conference, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar revealed this incredible accomplishment. He underlined that India’s election campaign exceeded all predictions and showed how strong our democracy is.

Key points are as follows for Lok Sabha Elections:

64.2 Crore Voters: The sheer magnitude of participation is awe-inspiring. India’s electorate, equivalent to the combined populations of several countries, turned out to cast their votes.

31.2 Crore Women Voters: This accomplishment was made possible in large part by the active participation of women voters. Their voices reverberated across the country, influencing the results of the election.

The largest electoral exercise in history involved the deployment of 1.5 crore poll workers, 68,000 monitoring teams, and security officers to guarantee a seamless voting process. This operation’s logistical scope is unmatched worldwide.

With the highest voter turnout in the past 35 years, 58.58%, Jammu and Kashmir sparkled.

The total population of the G7 nations (the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Canada) is less than that of India, with 64.2 crore voters. Put another way, the total number of voters in these powerful countries is 1.5 times that of India.

Election commissioners were jokingly referred to as “Laapataa Gentlemen” in social media memes, but Mr. Kumar corrected, saying, “We were always here, never went missing.” He concluded with a playful remark, “Now memes can say the ‘Laapataa Gentlemen’ are back,” recognizing the difficulties election officials have in carrying out their duties.

June 4, 2024, is the scheduled date of the vote count for the General Election to the Lok Sabha and the State Legislative Assemblies of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
