The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) is aiming to transform Tehri into a worldwide hotspot for paragliding. This small town is poised to put India on the international aerial acrobatic show map with Tehri Acro Festival 2023. Expected to draw around 150 world-renowned paragliders, the festival will mark Tehri's debut as a premiere paragliding destination.
Those passionate about paragliding should seize the opportunity to join in the festival's aerial contests and acrobatic displays. The festival, India's inaugural international aerial acrobatic show, will kick off on November 24 and run till November 28. As well as showcasing some of India’s top paragliders, it will offer both training and leisure experiences for everyone.
Getting Off the Ground at Tehri
With an impressive altitude of about 1,400 meters and a picturesque perch beside a lake over 1,000 meters, Tehri provides an unforgettable paragliding experience. Visitors to the Festival can look forward to an assortment of activities, such as D-Bagging, Wing Suit Flying, Acro Flying, and Syncro Flying. This event is open to everyone.
Paragliding Training Programmes
UTDB seeks to boost local employment by launching paragliding training programs, making this a significant step towards sustainable tourism in Tehri. One of the main goals is to cultivate at least 100 paragliding pilots in Uttarakhand by the year's end. To meet the rising demand for paragliding in areas like Bhimtal, UTDB is providing the necessary training to residents.
