After India's strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (Pok) under Operation Sindoor, the United States issued a security alert for its citizens. The US Embassy in Pakistan warned Americans to avoid areas near the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control (LOC), calling them conflict zones. In a statement released on Wednesday, the embassy said it was aware of India’s military action and is keeping a close watch on the situation as it develops.

After India’s Operation Sindoor targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (Pok), the US Embassy in Pakistan issued a safety advisory for American citizens. The embassy urged citizens to leave areas of active conflict or military activity if it is safe to do so.

Those unable to move were advised to stay indoors and shelter in place. The advisory also asked US nationals to remain alert, carry valid identification, and avoid drawing attention to themselves. It encouraged people to enrol in the Smart Traveller Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive real-time updates from the embassy. Also, citizens were advised to follow local news and have a personal safety plan ready.

Australia has also updated its travel advisory, urging citizens to avoid visiting both countries. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) stated that India’s recent missile strikes in Pakistan have heightened the risk of conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations. According to the updated Smartraveller guidelines, Australians should reconsider any travel plans to India or Pakistan. Several areas in Pakistan, such as Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, have been marked as “do not travel” zones due to the increased threat level.

Australia has warned its citizens to be extra cautious if they plan to travel to Pakistan or India. In its latest alert, the government said people should “reconsider the need to travel” to Pakistan, and avoid some areas completely due to higher risks. It also advised staying away from large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations, as they can turn violent without warning.

For those travelling to India, the advisory mentioned possible flight delays or cancellations because of airspace or airport closures. Travellers are advised to check with their airline before heading to the airport.
