Second Highest-Grossing Film Stree 2 continues to lead the Indian box office and is on the verge of becoming the highest-grossing Bollywood film in India. After 35 days of a successful run, the horror-comedy starring Rajkumar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor has earned more than "Animal," making it the second highest-grossing film in Bollywood in the country.
Directed by Amar Kaushik, the film achieved this milestone on its fifth Monday. While Ranbir Kapoor's "Animal" concluded its theatrical run with a total of Rs 553.87 crore net, "Stree 2" surged ahead, collecting Rs 560.38 crore net, according to Sacnilk. The film's next goal is to surpass "Jawan," which currently holds the record at Rs 640.25 crore net in India.
"Stree 2" has relished several weeks of box office success with little competition. It was initially expected to face a challenge from Kangana Ranaut's "Emergency," set for release on September 6, 2024, but the film's release was postponed due to certification issues.
Stree 2 is set to face new competition with the upcoming release of Hansal Mehta’s thriller The Buckingham Murders, starring Kareena Kapoor. Before that, this weekend, it will go up against Yudhra, an action drama featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Malavika Mohanan. For Yudhra to make an impact at the box office, strong word-of-mouth will be crucial. Meanwhile, re-releases like Tumbbad and Veer-Zaara are expected to continue their run at a steady pace without affecting Stree 2's momentum.
Released on August 15, 2024, Stree 2 features Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana, and Pankaj Tripathi in prominent roles. The movie revolves around the continuation of the first part, but this time the villagers seek Stree's help once again to protect them from the headless villain, Sarkata. The film also features exciting cameos from Varun Dhawan as Bhediya and Akshay Kumar as a descendant of Sarkata in a special appearance.
