Thailand, a Southeast Asian country known for its cultural richness, beautiful beaches, and thriving tourism industry, has announced an extension of its visa-free entry program for visitors from India and Taiwan. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin acknowledged the move, which aims to boost the country's tourism industry, following a recent cabinet meeting.
Visa-Free Entry Enhances Thailand's Appeal to Indian
The amended program permits Indian tourists to enter Thailand visa-free entry until November 11, 2024, with a maximum stay of 30 days. This extension builds on the success of a similar visa waiver program launched in November, which gave Indian tourists a 15-day stay under a visa-on-arrival plan.
The longer duration and visa-free entry access are projected to encourage more Indian tourists to visit Thailand, potentially resulting in a large rise in tourist arrivals.
Thailand's tourism industry, which contributes significantly to the country's economic growth, has faced challenges in recent years. The COVID-19 epidemic had a significant impact on travel and tourism around the world, including Thailand. The government is actively pursuing efforts to revitalize this key industry, and the visa exemption program for Indian tourists is a significant step in that regard.
India has a big population with a developing middle class, and a considerable proportion of this demographic is interested in international travel. Thailand seeks to attract a larger share of Indian tourists by streamlining the admission process and removing visa requirements, resulting in much-needed money for the tourism industry. This declaration from Thailand follows similar encouraging news for Indian travellers from Sri Lanka, another major tourism destination.
Despite recent controversy over increasing prices for on-arrival visas handled by a foreign company, the Sri Lankan government has guaranteed the continuation of its free tourist visa program for Indian travellers.
According to a statement released by Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe's office, the current $50 fee for a 30-day visa for most foreign visitors would not change. Furthermore, free visas will remain available to citizens of seven countries, including India, China, Russia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Thailand and Sri Lanka's relaxed visa regulations are anticipated to make travel easier for Indian tourists. This simplified process is likely to inspire more Indian people to choose these areas for future vacations, increasing tourist numbers and benefiting both countries' tourism industries.
According to commentators, this step will lead to increased economic collaboration between India, Thailand, and Sri Lanka, resulting in stronger commerce and cultural contact.
