Rahul Bhat (35), a Kashmiri Pandit, who worked at the Tehsildar's office in the Chadoora village was shot dead by 2 terrorists who barged into the government office in Budgam district.
The terrorists belonging to Pak-based and globally proscribed Jaish-e-Mohammad are suspected to be involved in the killing, however a terror group 'Kashmir Tigers' claimed responsibility for the attack.
Members of the Kashmiri Pandit community took to the streets in different parts of the union territory to protest.
Protesters blocked the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway near Vessu village on Thursday evening. In a video from the protest, people can be heard chanting 'We want justice'.
Today's attack is the latest in a series of targeted attacks on migrant workers and local minorities that have been sweeping Kashmir over the last eight months.
Bhat was living in a migrant colony at Sheikhpura in Budgam district and had around eight years of service. He is survived by wife, five-year-old daughter and parents. His father is a retired police officer.
