Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced the rejection of a ₹1 billion ($1.18 million) offer from the Adani Foundation for the Young India Skills University. The decision was announced during a press conference on Friday. The government explained that it wants to avoid any claims of favouritism or political issues.
The Young India Skills University is an important project by the Telangana government. Its goal is to help young people by teaching them useful skills and providing vocational training. Even though the government has decided not to accept a large amount of money offered by the Adani Foundation, they are determined to find other ways to fund the project and make it successful.
Formal communication with the Adani Foundation
Jayesh Ranjan, a senior official from the state, wrote a formal letter to Dr. Priti Adani, the chairperson of the Adani Foundation. In the letter, he thanked the foundation for offering the funds but confirmed that the government has decided not to accept them. He explained that earlier, the university didn’t ask for money because it didn’t have a tax exemption under Section 80G, which has only recently been approved. However, following Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s instructions, the funds are being declined to avoid any issues or controversies.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made it clear that no donations, including those from the Adani Group, have been accepted for the university so far. The government made this decision to stay honest and avoid any doubts or controversies. They want to keep their reputation clean while working on this important university project.
