Since a long time, fundamentalist Muslim bodies, including the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) had expressed its desire of setting up Sharia courts in India. AIMPLB had gone to the extent of claiming that it wants to establish Sharia courts in each district of the country and now it seems like the idea is slowly flourishing.

Minority Welfare Minister of Telangana Koppula Eshwar has said that the issue of granting judicial status to Waqf Board will be soon considered by the Chief Minister.

Answering a question raised by AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi during question hour in Assembly, the minister said that the Telangana government is committed to securing the valuable Wakf properties spread across the State and said that soon the government will call for a meeting with all the concerned regarding the delay in gazette notification of the details of the second survey of the Wakf lands.

The Telangana government’s decision to consider legitimising Sharia courts is fraught with dangerous consequences and might spell doom for the law and order situation in the country.

If authorised, the precedent set by the Telangana government, might be exploited by other state governments, who would use it to pass similar orders in their respective states to garner the support of Muslim fundamentalists.

The Sharia courts would undermine the authority of the judicial courts and would be akin to a parallel judicial system in the country.

Not to forget protests have took place in almost every muslim minority country like the US, UK, France, Austraia, Canada and many more to restrain the government from forming Sharia Courts as it not only increases terrorismactivities but provides shelter to illegal anti-national activities.

The AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi who raised the issue himself is one of the most radicalized politician who in 2013 warned the nation's government to pull back the security forces (police and army) for 15 minutes and no hindus will be left in the country while addressing a rally in Karimnagar.
