No vehicles will be stopped at night, no challan should be issued: Gurugram Police

The DCP has observed that some officers are unnecessarily stopping vehicles and issuing fines to ordinary citizens. To rectify this, the DCP clarifies the role of traffic personnel deployed at night

The Gurugram Police (DCP) Traffic has responded to complaints about vehicle checks at night by issuing specific instructions.

According to these instructions, traffic police officers should not issue fines to vehicles during nighttime operations. The goal is to prevent drivers from facing unnecessary problems at night. However, if it becomes essential to issue a fine based on the Motor Vehicles Act, the concerned gazetted officer or the undersigned authority must grant permission before doing so.

Gurugram Police Crack Down on Nighttime Traffic Violations

In a letter dated May 28, Deputy Commissioner of Police Virendra Vij stated, “Traffic Inspectors are ordered to command all the employees appointed under them in their jurisdiction that no vehicle should be stopped at night and no challan should be issued. If it is very necessary to issue a challan to a driver as per the M.V. Act, in that situation, the challan of that vehicle should be issued as per rules only after bringing it to the notice of the concerned gazetted officer/undersigned and obtaining permission.”

The DCP emphasized strict adherence to these guidelines. Any negligence or failure to follow the rules would result in immediate departmental action against the traffic police officer involved. The primary objective of deploying night traffic police personnel is to ensure smooth traffic flow in Gurugram and address common issues faced by travelers during nighttime journeys.

The DCP has observed that some officers are unnecessarily stopping vehicles and issuing fines to ordinary citizens. To rectify this, the DCP clarified the role of traffic personnel deployed at night: they should assist and guide people, arrange safe routes, and promptly respond to road accidents. In case of injuries, immediate admission to the nearest trauma center is crucial, and accident-hit vehicles should be swiftly removed from main roads to allow traffic to flow smoothly.

Virendra Vij went on to say that the job of traffic officers deployed at night was to assist ordinary citizens and drivers, as well as to organise safe routes in the event of a road accident.

The letter read, “The traffic personnel deployed at night should play an important role as Traffic Police, Gurugram by guiding and helping the common people and drivers and arranging safe routes to take them to their destinations and in case of a road accident. The injured persons should be immediately admitted to the nearest trauma center and the accident-hit vehicles should be immediately removed from the main road and traffic should be allowed to run smoothly.”

Despite these instructions, there have been instances of people violating traffic rules at night. Speeding and reckless driving on Gurugram roads have led to accidents.

DCP Virendra Vij has stated that traffic police will continue to be stern with intoxicated drivers at night in order to prevent serious accidents.
