Mukesh Ambani and his family have once again secured the title of India’s richest, with a massive fortune of ₹9.55 lakh crore, according to the latest M3M Hurun India Rich List 2025. Close behind is Gautam Adani and his family with ₹8.15 lakh crore, proving that the race for the top spot among India’s billionaires is as fierce as ever.

The report shows how quickly India’s ultra-rich population is expanding. The number of billionaires in the country has crossed 350,  a sixfold jump compared to 13 years ago. Together, these billionaires now hold a combined wealth of ₹167 lakh crore, which is almost half of India’s total GDP. This shows how rapidly wealth creation is growing in the country.

Young entrepreneurs and celebrities join billionaire club

A new generation of wealth creators is also making its presence felt. At just 31 years old, Aravind Srinivas, the founder of AI startup Perplexity, has become India’s youngest billionaire with a net worth of ₹21,190 crore. Even Bollywood has entered the rich list, superstar Shah Rukh Khan has officially joined the billionaire club for the first time with ₹12,490 crore to his name. This shows that success today is no longer limited to traditional businesses entertainment and technology are now equally powerful wealth creators.

Who gained the most 

In terms of big gains, Niraj Bajaj and his family saw the largest jump in wealth, adding ₹69,875 crore to reach a total of ₹2.33 lakh crore. This highlights how fortune can grow rapidly in India’s fast-moving economy.

Mumbai remains the country’s top billionaire hub with 451 wealthy individuals. New Delhi comes next with 223, followed by Bengaluru with 116. Sector-wise, pharmaceuticals lead the list with 137 wealthy individuals, followed by industrial products and chemicals.

The report also celebrates the rise of women in business. A total of 101 women made it to the list this year, including 26 who are dollar billionaires. Interestingly, most of the people on the rich list are self-made, about 66% built their wealth from scratch. Among the new entrants, 74% did not inherit their fortune but created it through their own efforts, proving once again that entrepreneurship in India is thriving.
