The State Bank of India (SBI) recently inaugurated an ATM on a Houseboat at Dal Lake, Srinagar. Known as the 'floating ATM'. The banks said that this was done in an attempt to be a much-needed tourist attraction and that it would add to the charm of Srinagar.

The latest installation in Srinagar has received a positive response from netizens on Twitter. However, many complained that SBI ATMs in remote and hard to access areas are out of service a lot of the time.

This is not SBI’s first attempt at this kind of floating ATM idea. It should be noted that the lender had previously launched its first floating ATM in 2004 in Kerala. The machine was installed on the Jhankar yacht owned by Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC). The ATM operated between the Ernakulam and Vaypeyan regions.

According to the bank's website, there are over 60,000 SBI ATMs in India, the largest network in the country.

According to reports, SBI currently has 22,224 branches in the country and a total of 63,906 ATM/CDM with 71,705 BC outlets.
