Junior doctors’ demands

The decision for mass resignation came after authorities delayed providing justice to the trainee doctor and appropriate working conditions at the hospital. Earlier today, approximately 15 senior doctors joined their junior colleagues in a symbolic hunger strike to show solidarity.

This protest occurs during the Durga Puja celebrations in Kolkata, where the festive atmosphere has been overshadowed by a recent tragic incident.

West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Pant addressed the situation on Monday, stating that 90 percent of the ongoing projects at medical colleges in the state are set to be completed by next month and urged the protesting doctors to resume their duties.

He further stated that he has requested the doctors to return and rejoin their work. Some of them have already done so and are also working to improve the hospital’s working environment. Junior doctors will appreciate the progress made by the government and the authorities.

The heinous crime took place on August 9 when a trainee doctor from RG Kar Medical was on duty. She went to the seminar hall to take some rest after a tiring night shift and was raped and murdered by a civic volunteer named Sanjay Roy. Meanwhile, the CBI has filed a charge sheet against the prime accused, Sanjay Roy, in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
