In a recent development, the Supreme Court of India has rejected a petition that sought the removing Kejriwal as Delhi CM from his position as the Chief Minister of Delhi.
Legal Battle Over Removing Kejriwal as Delhi CM Ends
This petition was filed in response to Kejriwal's arrest in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. The basis of the rejection lies in the court's ruling that there was no legal foundation for demanding removing Kejriwal as Delhi CM. The court emphasized that the decision regarding Kejriwal's continuation in office ultimately lies with the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi.
The petitioner, Kant Bhati, challenged a previous ruling by the Delhi High Court that dismissed a similar plea by another individual seeking Kejriwal's removal. Notably, the High Court had also penalised that petitioner for filing a frivolous litigation.

The Supreme Court's decision, in line with the Delhi High Court's ruling, stated that Kejriwal's continuance in office is a matter of propriety rather than a legal right. The court declined to interfere with the decision of the Delhi High Court and indicated that if the LG chose to take action, it would be within their authority to do so.
It is worth mentioning that the Supreme Court had previously granted removing Kejriwal as Delhi CM interim bail until June 1, allowing him to engage in political campaigning during the ongoing general elections. However, the court imposed several conditions on his bail. These conditions include refraining from performing official duties as the Chief Minister and surrendering to jail authorities after the bail period ends.
The background of the case revolves around the Delhi excise policy case, which involves allegations of irregularities. Kejriwal has been accused of being the alleged "kingpin" and "key conspirator" in this case.
Additionally, other leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have also been arrested in connection with this case. The article highlights the judicial response to the petitions demanding Kejriwal's removal, with the courts being cautious about being drawn into political matters. Some of these efforts have been described as "publicity litigation," further emphasising the courts' reluctance to intervene in political affairs.
It is important to note that these legal challenges and controversies have not halted the functioning of the Delhi government. Kejriwal's party, the Aam Aadmi Party, continues to govern and implement policies in the city.

As the legal proceedings continue, it remains to be seen how this case will unfold and what impact it may have on the political landscape of Delhi. Kejriwal, known for his anti-corruption stance and populist policies, has a significant following, and any decision regarding his removal from office would undoubtedly have far-reaching implications.
In the meantime, Kejriwal's focus has shifted to the ongoing general elections, where his party is actively campaigning. The outcome of these elections will play a crucial role in shaping the political future of not only Kejriwal but also the Aam Aadmi Party and its agenda for the people of Delhi.
