Two newborn babies were allegedly bitten by rats inside the intensive care unit (ICU) of a government hospital in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The shocking incident took place at Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital (MYH), which is one of the biggest government hospitals in the state. The matter has caused concern and prompted officials to begin an investigation.

Both babies were born last week and were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the hospital for treatment. According to reports, the nursing staff noticed injuries on the newborns and immediately informed the hospital management. When CCTV footage from the unit was checked, rats were seen jumping around in a swing near the babies.

The first incident was reported on Sunday, and another similar case happened the next day on Monday. In the last two days, one baby was bitten on the fingers, while another baby had bite marks on the head and shoulder. The hospital’s superintendent, Dr. Ashok Yadav, confirmed the incidents and told the media that both babies are stable now. He also explained that the infants were already suffering from congenital (birth) deformities.

One of them had even been abandoned in the Khargone district and was shifted to MYH for treatment. The hospital administration has said that strict action will be taken, and steps are being planned to control the rat problem in the ICU. Officials are treating the matter seriously, as it has raised questions about the hospital’s safety and hygiene conditions, especially in such a sensitive ward meant for newborn babies.

This incident has shocked people, as ICUs are considered high-security areas where patients require the highest care and protection. The news has also sparked anger on social media, with many demanding accountability from the hospital management. For now, both babies are under observation, and a probe has been launched to ensure such an incident does not happen again.
