Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Adampur air base in Punjab on Tuesday and met with soldiers, just days after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire. Adampur was one of the Indian Air Force stations that Pakistan tried to target during the night of May 9 and 10, following India’s “Operation Sindoor.”Pakistan had claimed that its hypersonic missiles destroyed India’s S-400 air defence system in Adampur. However, Indian officials have denied this claim.
PM Modi shared his visit on social media platform X, writing, “Earlier this morning, I went to AFS Adampur and met our brave air warriors and soldiers. It was a very special experience to be with those who show courage, determination, and fearlessness. India will always be thankful to our armed forces for everything they do for our country.”
A day after praising the Indian armed forces for the success of "Operation Sindoor", Prime Minister Narendra Modi pointed out the country's stronger stand against terrorism. The operation was launched on May 7, following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
During his national address on Monday, PM Modi said that Indian forces carried out the mission with full courage and determination. As part of the operation, India struck nine terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), eliminating over 100 terrorists.
Modi stated that “Operation Sindoor” represents a major shift in India’s counter-terrorism policy and sets a “new normal” in how the country deals with cross-border terrorism. He called the operation a clear message that India will not stay silent in the face of terror threats.
He also criticised Pakistan, pointing out that senior officials of the Pakistani military were seen attending funerals of terrorists. This, he said, is strong proof of Pakistan’s direct support for terrorism. PM Modi’s remarks reflect a tougher national security stance, underlining that India is ready to take bold and decisive actions to protect its citizens and maintain peace.
After discovering cross-border involvement in the April 22 terror attack that killed 26 people, India launched "Operation Sindoor" to strike back at terror groups. The Indian armed forces targeted and destroyed several camps belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen.
In retaliation, the Pakistani Army launched drones and missiles toward western parts of India. However, Indian defence systems successfully intercepted these attacks. Following this, India carried out precise strikes on selected military targets deep within Pakistani territory. After four days of heavy cross-border drone and missile exchanges, both countries agreed to a ceasefire last Saturday to stop further military action.
