In a recent online video, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the leader of the banned US-based Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) group, has issued a threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Pannun mentioned the Israel-Palestine conflict and warned that if India continues what he calls "occupation" in Punjab, there will be a violent reaction for which he holds India and PM Modi responsible. He also made a disturbing shooting gesture towards the camera.
This video message follows the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Pannun for issuing threats and promoting enmity. These threats were circulated on various social media platforms ahead of the scheduled India-Pakistan ICC World Cup 2023 match in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The Cyber Crime Deputy Commissioner of Ahmedabad, Ajit Rajian, confirmed this.
Additionally, Pannun's message indicated that SFJ plans to seek "revenge" for the murder of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijar in Canada.
Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, originally from Amritsar, has been under the scrutiny of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) since 2019 when they filed their first case against him. He is accused of actively promoting and inciting acts of terror and spreading fear in Punjab and other parts of India through threats and intimidation.
Furthermore, non-bailable arrest warrants were issued against Pannun by the Special NIA Court on February 3, 2021. He was declared a "Proclaimed Offender" (PO) on November 29 of the previous year.
