Markets and restaurants were closed in various Rajasthan cities on Wednesday in protest of the daylight murder of Rajput leader and Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena (SRRKS) president Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi in Jaipur on Tuesday afternoon. Aside from Jaipur, bandhs and demonstrations were recorded in Ajmer, Sawai Madhopur, Sikar, Tonk, Dausa, Jhunjhunu, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Pali, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Sirohi, and Mount Abu, among other districts. The bandh's cause is to request a judicial investigation into the assassination of the Karni Sena President. Supporters have also blocked Shipra Road outside the hospital and have urged that the suspects in the case be arrested promptly.

On Tuesday, three shooters assassinated Gogamedi at his Jaipur home. According to authorities, one of the shooters was killed in retaliatory shooting.

Gangster Rohit Godara claimed responsibility for Gogamedi's murder

In a Facebook post, gangster Rohit Godara claimed responsibility for Gogamedi's murder. According to the content, which appears to be from Godara's account, they took action against Gogamedi owing to his apparent collaboration with their rivals.

Godara is a member of the gang commanded by Lawrence Bishnoi and his main partner Goldy Brar. This criminal organization is accused of planning the killing of famed Punjabi musician Sidhu Moose Wala in May 2022.

CCTV footage shows the assailants pulling out the guns and firing at Gogamedi, who is seated on the couch opposite them. One of the intruders shoots a lifeless Gogamedi lying on the floor from close range before departing the scene.

According to authorities, Gogamedi was standing outside his house at 1.45 p.m. when three to four persons on a scooter opened fire on him and fled the area. "3-4 men came to his (Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi's) house and tell the security guards that they want to meet Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi. The guard takes them inside, and after having tea, they opened fire at him," alleged Ajit Singh Mamdoli, former Rajput Karni Sena state president.

Who was Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi?

Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena was led by Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi. Gogamedi founded Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena after being removed from the Sri Rajput Karni Sena in 2015 due to disagreements with the organization's founder, Lokendra Singh Kalvi. In 2018, both of these organizations condemned Deepika Padukone's film "Padmaavat" for allegedly distorting historical facts regarding the Rajput community.

Both the Congress and the BJP have denounced the killing. Outgoing Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on X, “The murder of Shri Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi is very sad. I pray to God to give peace to the departed soul and strength to his family to bear this loss." Meanwhile, Rajasthan BJP head C P Joshi stated that Gogamedi had long requested that the administration boost his protection, but that his request was denied.
