At least 40 schools in Delhi received bomb threats through email. These schools include DPS RK Puram, GD Goenka Paschim Vihar, Mother Mary’s Mayur Vihar, The British School Chanakyapuri, Salwan Public School Mayur Vihar, Modern School Mandi House, Cambridge School, DPS Vasant Kunj, and several DAVs.

According to the Indian Express report, after knowing about the bomb threat Delhi Police, Bomb Disposal Squads, and fire department officials quickly responded to the threats at DPS RK Puram and GD Goenka Paschim Vihar. The first alert came at 6:15 am for GD Goenka, followed by another at 7 am for DPS RK Puram. No suspicious items have been found on the school premises so far.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi expressed concerns about the city's law and order situation on X (formerly Twitter), following recent bomb threats to schools. She wrote, “After daily incidents of ransom, murders, and shootings in Delhi, now we are facing bomb threats at schools. The law and order situation in Delhi has never been worse. The BJP-led central government has failed in its primary duty of ensuring the safety of Delhi’s citizens."

Although no suspicious items have been found so far, the threat emails caused major disruptions. As a precaution, students and staff were evacuated, and the schools were temporarily closed while investigations continued. Cybercrime teams are working to identify the source of the emails.

Sources say that the bomb threat was sent to the schools' official email IDs at 11:38 pm on Sunday when the schools were closed. The sender, using the email address [email protected], wrote: "I planted multiple bombs inside the building. The bombs are small and well-hidden.They won’t cause much damage to the building, but many people will be injured when they detonate."

The email also stated: "You all deserve to suffer and lose limbs. If I do not receive 30,000 dollars, the group 'KNR' is behind this attack."

Increase in bomb threats

India has seen a rapid increase in bomb threats targeting key sectors like schools and airlines, causing widespread panic and disruptions. The aviation industry, especially, has been severely affected, with several flights delayed, suspended, or diverted in response to these threats.

A few months back domestic airlines in India received at least 1,143 hoax bomb threats between August 2022 and November 13, 2024. Alarmingly, 994 of these incidents occurred in 2024 alone, highlighting a significant rise in security concerns. October 2024 was particularly troubling, with 680 hoax bomb threats reported in just one month.

In response to the increasing bomb threats, the Delhi High Court has also directed the Delhi government and police to develop a detailed action plan and standard operating procedure (SOP) for handling bomb threats and related emergencies. The Court has set an eight-week deadline for them to comply with this order.
