The Uttarakhand Police made a dramatic entrance into the patients' waiting gallery of AIIMS-Rishikesh to apprehend a nursing officer accused of molested a female doctor on May 19. A video of the incident quickly went viral on the social media.
In the video, the vehicle is seen entering the hospital gallery while guards move stretchers with patients to make way for the vehicle.
Accused Suspended After Allegedly Molested a Female Doctor at AIIMS-Rishikesh
The accused, Satish Kumar, from Rajasthan, was suspended and arrested on charges of molesting Vadini, the female doctor. He was later released on bail.
The police arrested Satish Kumar based on a complaint filed by the female doctor, charging him with sexual harassment. He was booked under sections 354 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
In response to the viral video, the SSP Dehradun clarified that the vehicle was taken to the fourth floor of AIIMS-Rishikesh and stated that an investigation into the incident was ongoing.
"The video being shown is not an emergency ward, but a waiting gallery for the patients to stay in before their admission. According to the primary information, the said emergency route was used by the security officer to take out the accused under the above circumstances," the SSP stated.
The official mentioned that they will meet with the director and security in charge of AIIMS-Rishikesh to discuss the matter. Further details will be revealed after a thorough investigation.
Chaos ensued at AIIMS-Rishikesh as resident doctors staged a strike, demanding the immediate termination of Satish Kumar. During the protest, the resident doctors called for the nursing officer's immediate termination, stating that suspension was insufficient for his offense.
Dr. Rhimjhim, one of the protesters, expressed dissatisfaction with the administration's handling of the situation. "For the last 72 hours (three days), the FIR was not registered and now the accused is roaming scot-free. The administration is making tall claims but not helping us," she stated.
Uttarakhand State Commission for Women chairperson Kusum Kandwal, firmly insisted during her meeting with the AIIMS administration that they must thoroughly investigate the issue and take decisive action against the culprit. She demanded the immediate formation of a committee to probe the incident thoroughly.
