A nurse at a government hospital in Karnataka has been suspended for using Fevikwik, a common adhesive, instead of stitches on a child’s deep wound. The decision was taken in a meeting led by the Chief Secretary of the state government on Wednesday.

Nurse defended her actions; parents recorded video

The incident took place on January 14 at Adoor Primary Health Centre in Hanagal taluk, Haveri district. Seven-year-old Gurukishan Annappa Hosamani was brought to the hospital with a deep wound on his cheek that was bleeding heavily. Instead of stitching the wound, the nurse applied Fevikwik to close it.

The child’s parents were shocked and recorded a video of the nurse justifying her actions. She claimed that she had been using this method for years and insisted that it was better than stitches, as stitches would leave a permanent scar.

The parents later made an official complaint and gave the video as proof. But instead of suspending the nurse, whose name is Jyoti, the authorities first decided to move her to a different hospital, the Gutthal Health Institute in Haveri taluk, on February 3. Many people were angry about this decision and felt it was unfair.

Official suspension and investigation

After the incident, so many people were shocked and upset that officials started looking into the matter. The Health and Family Welfare Services Commissioner's Office said that Fevikwik should not be used for medical treatment. Now, the nurse has been suspended while the investigation continues.

Meanwhile, the child is doing well, and health officials have been told to keep checking to make sure there are no problems from the treatment.
