In a recent interview, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, revealed that National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval of India spoke with his Pakistani counterpart, Lieutenant General Asim Malik, amid rising tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. The talks took place after India’s Operation Sindoor, which involved strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Dar shared this information during an interview with Kamran Yousaf from TRT World. The conversation between the two National Security Advisors (NSAs) might suggest a chance for reducing tensions after India’s successful operation against terrorists in Pakistan. India launched missile strikes that targeted the leaders of two major terror groups, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. These groups are accused of carrying out attacks in India.
Indian forces carried out missile strikes on terrorist targets across the border early on Wednesday. The Ministry of Defence said that the strikes were carefully planned and aimed only at terror-related sites, without hitting any Pakistani military locations. This action was in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 25 Indians and one Nepali national.
At the same time, tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir were rising. Pakistani soldiers continued shelling civilian areas in Karnah, which is located in the Kupwara district, after midnight. As a result, many residents had to move to safer places to avoid danger. Earlier reports stated that 15 Indians had died, and 43 others were injured due to heavy firing and shelling by Pakistani forces in the Poonch and Tangdhar areas along the LoC and International Border.
