The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a new incentive-based cleanliness drive. The scheme encourages travellers to report unhygienic toilets at toll plazas, with the NHAI offering a ₹1,000 reward for valid reports.
The reward will be directly credited to the user’s FASTag account after verification. The initiative is valid till October 31, 2025, across all national highways in India.
To take part in the scheme, commuters need to follow a few simple steps:
Download the latest version of the Rajmargyatra app.
Click clear, geo-tagged photos of unclean toilets located at toll plazas under NHAI jurisdiction.
Upload the images with the time stamp on the app.
Fill in your name, mobile number, and Vehicle Registration Number (VRN).
Each verified report will earn the user ₹1,000, credited to their FASTag account. However, each vehicle number can claim the reward only once during the entire campaign period.
Rules to keep the drive fair
The NHAI has laid out several conditions to ensure that the drive remains transparent and fair:
The campaign applies only to toilets built or maintained by NHAI. Toilets at dhabas, fuel pumps, or other public areas are not included.
Each VRN (vehicle registration number) can receive the reward only once throughout the scheme.
Only one user per day will be rewarded for reporting the same toilet facility. If multiple people upload images of the same site, the first valid report will be counted.
All images must be taken directly through the Rajmargyatra app. Edited, duplicate, or old images will be disqualified.
To ensure accuracy and prevent misuse, the NHAI has put in place a two-layer verification system.
All reports will first go through AI-assisted screening. If needed, they will then be reviewed manually by officials.
This dual process helps confirm that only genuine reports are rewarded, ensuring both fairness and the integrity of the cleanliness drive.
Through this initiative, NHAI aims to improve sanitation standards across India’s national highways and make toll plazas cleaner for travellers. By turning commuters into active participants, the authority hopes to make India’s roads not just faster, but cleaner too.
