The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is getting ready to launch a new Aadhaar app with a modern design and improved features. The announcement was made by Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw during the Aadhaar Samvaad event held in Delhi on Tuesday.
The new app will replace the existing mAadhaar app and will come with a facial recognition feature. This feature will allow users to securely share their Aadhaar details without needing a physical copy of the card.
Instead of carrying a printed Aadhaar card or photocopy, users will be able to verify their identity by simply scanning a QR code and using their phone for a face scan. This will be useful at places like hotels, airports, and other locations where Aadhaar is required as proof of identity.
The new app is currently being tested with a small group of users. It will be launched for everyone once the testing is complete.
"Aadhaar verification becomes as simple as making UPI payment. Users can now digitally verify and share their Aadhaar details while ensuring their privacy. Simply scan a QR code or use a requesting application," said Vaishnaw.
This new Aadhaar app aims to make identity verification easier, faster, and more private, just like how simple it is to make a UPI payment.
