An unusual property deal has taken place in the heart of Delhi. The property in question is no ordinary house; it is the first official residence of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. The bungalow is located at 17 York Road, which is now known as Motilal Nehru Marg, inside the famous Lutyens’ Bungalow Zone (LBZ).

According to reports, thechas been sold for about ₹1,100 crore. Earlier, the asking price for the property was ₹1,400 crore, but the final agreement was closed at a lower amount. This deal has attracted a lot of attention because of the historic and political importance of the bungalow.

The buyer is reportedly a well-known businessman from India’s beverage industry. However, his name has not been revealed yet. A leading law firm is handling the final legal checks for this property. As part of the process, the firm also issued a public notice, asking anyone with claims to the bungalow to come forward within 7 days. If no claims are raised, it will be assumed that the property belongs only to the current owners.

At present, the bungalow is owned by Rajkumari Kakkar and Beena Rani, who are linked to a royal family from Rajasthan. The property is huge, spread over nearly 14,973 square meters (around 3.7 acres) and with a built-up area of 24,000 square feet.

The bungalow is special because of its location in Lutyens’ Delhi, the most high-profile and expensive part of the capital city. Designed by British architect Edwin Lutyens between 1912 and 1930, this zone is home to ministers, judges, and top officials.

While most bungalows are owned by the government, about 600 of them are in private hands, mostly belonging to India’s richest and most powerful families. With its prime location, massive land area, and historical importance, this property is considered a trophy asset that only a handful of billionaires can afford.
