Tensions between India and Pakistan have led to some unusual changes in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Sweet shops in the city have started changing the names of some popular sweets, including the well-known 'Mysore Pak'.Shopkeepers said they removed the word 'Pak' from sweet names and replaced it with 'Shree'. For example, 'Moti Pak' is now called 'Moti Shree', 'Gond Pak' is 'Gond Shree', and 'Mysore Pak' has been renamed 'Mysore Shree'.One shopkeeper told NDTV that this change was made because of the rising tension with Pakistan.

However, the word 'Pak' in these sweets has nothing to do with Pakistan. In Kannada, a language spoken in Karnataka, 'Pak' means sweet or sugar syrup. 'Mysore Pak' is actually a traditional sweet from Mysore (now Mysuru) made using sugar syrup. This name change comes after a recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 people died. India blamed cross-border terror links and launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 to strike terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Pakistan responded with a missile and drone attack, which was stopped by Indian forces. India later hit back by targeting Pakistani airfields. A ceasefire on May 10 ended the fighting. This renaming reflects the strong patriotic feeling in the country. Several other businesses have also taken steps to show support for India, such as stopping the sale of products linked to Pakistan. The government has urged citizens and businesses to remain united during this sensitive time. For now, sweets with the word ‘Pak’ are getting a new identity in Jaipur, influenced by the current national mood and ongoing tensions between the two countries.
