A 20-year-old man was taken into custody in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, for reportedly raping a woman with mental illness. It is believed that the alleged incident occurred on Tuesday, October 22. Sources have indicated that this has come to light after disturbing CCTV footage came out.

Later, as reported by PTI, the woman was found roaming semi-naked on the streets, this incident very soon drew public attention. A concerned passerby noticed her distress and contacted the authorities, leading to the start of an investigation.

The police after scanning the CCTV footage identified the accused as Sahil Soni, who now stands in custody. According to reports, footage showed evidence of assault that led to the swift arrest of the accused, Sahil Soni.

The authorities continue to investigate the case further to gather more information about what happened and provide necessary support for the woman involved. The police officials claimed that this case is being taken into priority, assuring that justice will be served for the victims. It throws up a lot more questions about the protection and safety of vulnerable individuals in society.

Indore Additional DCP Zone-1 Alok Sharma said, “Yesterday we got information that an unidentified woman who was mentally challenged was raped. A complaint was registered at a local police station, following which an FIR was registered in connection with the case,”

The investigation revealed that the woman had "walked for about half a kilometer without clothes after being assaulted", a police officer said. 

He added that a child first alerted the police after noticing a naked woman roaming around Neelkanth Colony around 3:45 am on Tuesday, reported News18. A patrolling sub-inspector soon came and took the woman to MY Hospital in an ambulance.

Sonu, the suspect, was arrested while still wearing the clothes seen in the CCTV footage. He was presented before a local court on Wednesday, October 23, and placed in judicial custody. During questioning, Sonu admitted he was under the influence of drugs on Monday evening. He further stated that when he attempted to leave, the woman followed him.
